Edeficio Consorcio in Santiago, Chile

I had seen pictures of this the Chilean Consorcia Building before but then I came across a ton of fabulous images via Plataforma Arquitectura that made me like this building even more. It resides in Santiago and uses up to 48% less energy due to the exterior vegetation. When the plants are not a lucious green, they turn colors of bright reds and yellows in the fall.

The western orientation of the building is protected by the double facade construction that allow vegetation to grow on a system separate from the building. The vegetated facade makes up about 3,000 square meters. From the interior, it creates a lush barrier, shading it’s inhabitants from the beating sun and inside creating at atmosphere more like living inside of a secret garden. The planters and separate system reminds me a lot of the system seen at MFO Park in Zürich, Switzerland. While MFO Park using mostly cable system for the plants to grow on, there is a second track halfway up the structure that is like a large planter that runs the length and provides a second level of vegetation. The track also has an area for maintence workers to walk and take care of the plants and lighting.

me encanta el edificio consorcio, es hermoso en todas las estaciones del año, sobre todo en otoño donde las hojas se tornan rojas, amarillas y naranjas.
