It seems that I’m happening across all sorts of interesting ways to dress up architectural facades these days. Here’s another, this time coming from Urban Screen that is exploring ways to play with the Kunsthalle in Hamburg, Germany keeping in tune with the material and building elements. It seems to have really gotten the attention of the crowd as they stop and sometimes even sit down to watch the show. I have to admit, it’s pretty realistic and does a fantastic job of sucking you in. The sound effects are also great as blocks push in and out.
From Urban Screen, “The conception of this project consistently derives from its underlying architecture – the theoretic conception and visual pattern of the Hamburg Kunsthalle. The Basic idea of narration was to dissolve and break through the strict architecture of O. M. Ungers “Galerie der Gegenwart”. Resultant permeabilty of the solid facade uncovers different interpretations of conception, geometry and aesthetics expressed through graphics and movement. A situation of reflexivity evolves – describing the constitution and spacious perception of this location by means of the building itself.”
